Alex is Managing Partner at Branchout Ventures, Member at New York Angels, and Adjunct Professor of computer science at Columbia University. 

 

He is an investor and advisor to early-stage technology and technology-enabled startups across emerging industries. The focus is on software technologies that involve Data (management, analytics) and Artificial Intelligence and how these technologies can add value to important industry segments such as the digitalization of finance and health care, commerce, transportation, enterprise software and connected devices.

 

Latest investments include NYSHEX (an electronic marketplace for shippers, forwarders and carriers to transact forward freight contracts as an alternative to the unpredictable and volatile spot market of freight rates), and Kasisto (an SRI Int'l spin-off offering a conversational AI platform that allows companies to engage in intelligent conversations with their customers using virtual assistants and smart bots). 

 

Alex was the founder of a platform for derivatives algorithmic trading, analytics and visualization, a member of the research teams at Bell Labs (Murray Hill) and AT&T Labs (Florham Park), and a computer science professor at Boston University. He is the inventor of 12 issued patents, author of over 30 peer-reviewed technical articles, co-editor of a book on databases, a PhD holder in computer science.
